Results from a recent Gillette Venus survey reveal that men grossly underestimate how often women perform beauty rituals a fact that will come as no surprise to the ladies.

In summer, 78 per cent of women shave their underarms at least once a week. Almost 70 per cent shave their legs, but that number falls to 28 per cent in winter.

Some 80 per cent of Australian women choose a razor to remove hair, while professional waxing lags at 23 per cent. South Australian women are more likely to use a razor for hair removal than anywhere else in Australia, while more women in Western Australia choose to wax.

Gillette gushes: "The quest to provide women with radiant, silky smooth shaven skin that makes them feel more confident and beautiful continues in research facilities around the world".

Accordingly, it recommends that women shave regularly to keep legs looking smooth and stubble-free.

If you're planning a day at the pool or beach, shave the night before to avoid irritations from sun, salt or chlorine.

If you have sunburn, let the skin heal before shaving since any method of hair removal could cause further irritation.

Shave regularly to highlight a tan. Shaving actually enhances your tan by removing flaky skin that can hide its glow.
